Description

An attractive antique necklace crafted in 9ct yellow gold which displays a fly on a spider’s web and a dangling spider on a knife-edge gold link, dangling below it. Late Victorian or early Edwardian, so c1905 and with the old English stamp on the side of the circle “9CT”. I adore that it is not just an empty web with a dangling spider as so many other examples are but it has a well-crafted fly, decorated with a tiny seed pearl, atop of the web.

I love the form of the fly and the construction of the woven web is just brilliant. Such intricacy! The spider also has a seed pearl on its head area and a mille grain set amethyst to represent its body. It is typically Edwardian petite so is not a large, clunky piece. Subtle and could be worn at work too, so she is a very versatile piece.

In such pleasing condition, having had a clasp replacement at some point in her life. It is small, in line with the trace chain so is precise to fasten. The pendant drop measures approx 4.5cm and the chain length is approx 41cm (16 inches). Stamped as “9CT” on the pendant.

I will send in a new gift box to keep her safe and send by international express courier or else by Special Delivery within the UK. Box in the images is for display only. Thank you.
