Description

This is both a particularly rare design and also a rare enamel colour, firmly attributed as an Archibald Knox design for Liberty & Co, London, c1900. It is stamped clearly with the Murrle Bennett maker’s mark, as was often the case with these pieces retailed through the Liberty & Co store in London. Crafted in the c1900 era, it is a top quality piece in excellent condition, complete with its original Libertyesque triangular bale.

This rare pendant is solid and heavy in the hand and feels exactly as it should. It is a strikingly simple statement piece, which has several of those Celtic tell tale motifs we see in Knox designs. I have not been able to find another exactly like it in all of my research, similar yes, but not identical, which is why I believe it to be a rarer design. These beautiful, original Knox designed pieces really do not come long often at all. This particular piece came to me via a collector of quality A&C pieces, who bought it from a top end gallery in London, 20 to 25 years ago. Hence it being a “new to the market” piece.

The enamel used on the main section has a wonderful (and again, more unusual) orange and purple colourway that is beautiful. You may not have noticed at first glance, but there is also a green enamel infill in the bottom of the pendant too. All of the enamel is in excellent order as this piece has been cossetted.

It is the first I have seen of this particular design so I am sure it will be loved by all. In excellent condition. The drop of the pendant is approx 4.9cm, including the bale and the wearable length of the later silver chain is approx 41cm (16 inches). Complimentary Special Delivery is included within the UK and Express courier internationally. Thank you. A new gift box will be supplied as the boxes in the images are not included.
