Description
A lovely Edwardian moonstones necklace c1910, set in silver, with each stone nestling in its own hand-crafted spectacle settings. I love how the central drop consists of three stones, with 4 double sets of moonstones either side. You do see this type of necklace with 2 doubles moonstones or 3 either side, so it is lovely to have a version with 4 double moonstones in the drops to either side. 19 moonstones in total.
The festoon design with the swags between stones is indicative of the era and does enhance the overall design. The stones are all in pleasing condition. I adore how moonstones can appear clear against a light backing and against a darker backing, well, then you see the schiller and the nuances of blues. This design is elegant and petite rather than clunky and so you can easily understand why these beautiful Edwardian pieces are selected for wedding outfits.
The decorated section measures approx 10.5cm in width, with the longest drop measuring approx 3.4cm. The wearable length of the chain is approx 42.5cm (16.75 inches). Has had a replacement catch at some point. In pleasing condition.
