Description
A lovely late Victorian / early Edwardian design of moonstones set in a star formation, which is beautifully constructed, setting it apart from most of the starburst moonstone brooches you find. You can see the superior sterling silver structure to the front and also to the verso. The 9 moonstones are domed and are claw-set with solid silver balls decorating the design on both the inner halo and the points around the edges. It is a wonderfully eye catching piece, which you could also wrap a chain around to use as a pendant.
One central domed moonstone, set with lots of little claws. A halo of 8 domed moonstones surrounds it. Tiny graduated silver balls lead to the end points on each ray. Some of the stones have more blue flashes than others and obviously against darker backgrounds, you see the adularascence a lot more.
In excellent condition, with some patina. A lovely, more well-constructed and beautiful antique piece.
It measures approx 4cm in diameter and retains its original hinge, clip and pin. Tests as sterling silver – no marks.
I shall send in a new gift box and not the box in the images, which is for display only. International tracked and signed for is included, as is special delivery within the UK. Thank you.
