The best things come in small packages and this lovely double stick pin set from c1900 and probably by Heinrich Levinger of Pforzheim, is testament to this. I have seen these Pforzheim designs on brooches but never before on a set of pins like this-just beautiful!
I love the organic, sinuous and very Jugendstil design in silver and there is a lovely sense of symmetry on this piece with the the larger oval cabochon of apple green chrysoprase (stained agate) in the centre and a smaller, round cabochon set to either side. These silver and green chrysoprase pieces offer the best of Jugendstil design in my opinion.
The original silver chain connects to another pin of the same length, with a round head…I wonder whether this was like the “safety chain” we get on brooches….for security so the main pin could not be lost.
In pleasing condition…a slight kink or bend in each pin section as is usual for these pieces…but very minor. A jeweller could straighten in a flash if it bothers you. However, it is minimal and usually the pin section is covered in fabric. These would make a lovely gift.
Each pin measures just over 5cm in length. A beautiful and very rare piece of Jugendstil jewellery.
