Description
A lovely Murrle Bennett c1905 sinuous Art Nouveau design, which has a brooch fitting and a large bale you can use for a chain. It is stamped clearly with the Murrle Bennett maker’s mark, “15 CT” and also a patent number which I presume is for the design. I have seen this pendant / brooch also in 9ct gold but this example is in 15ct yellow gold.
I love the stylised hearts on this design, as well as the bold, vertical band of gold that hovers over the front of the pendant / brooch. This is what you use as the bale-very clever indeed. There are also some typically Jugendstil parallel sweeping lines from either side. This piece is such a concentrated design in such an exquisite and petite piece.
I am happy to include the later 9ct yellow gold chain for you too. Then you have the possibility to wear this fabulous piece as a pendant and a brooch. The pendant measures approx 2.4cm high and a tiny touch under 3cm wide. The chain is marked “375” for 9ct gold and measures approx 46cm (approx 18 inches).
