Description
This is a rare piece of English Arts and Crafts jewellery, c1905 made for retail at Liberty & Co of London, and firmly attributed to the designer Oliver Baker. It features a centrally-set round turquoise stone and it retains the instantly recognisable and typical, original Liberty triangular-shaped bale.
This is such a potent design, with its cut-outs and two sets of heart motifs, one at the top and the other at the bottom. It absolutely blurs the lines of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts. There are not too many Oliver Baker designed pendants at all, so this is a rare treat. We may be more familiar with his statement belt buckle designs, which are statement-sized and sumptuous. Baker’s designs have such a clarity and elegance to them.
The pendant measures approx 4.5cm in height, including the bale. Its accompanying sterling silver chain is included and it measures approx 41cm (a tiny touch over 16 inches) in length. It retains its lovely barrel-clasp fastener too.
I will package carefully and post with Special Delivery or else International Tracked and Signed. The box in the images is not included but I will package in a new gift box. Thank you!
