Description
This is a rare hand-crafted necklace, solidly attributed to the highly sought-after designer Omar Ramsden, and was most likely crafted in the c1905 era. It sings Omar’s design, especially with the carnelians wrapped in silver cages. That particular feature appears on several of his necklaces I have come across over the years. It is a fabulous piece of art!
The main openwork section of the pendant consists of four intertwined shapes that present a domed blister pearl at their centre. Large silver balls sit at the E,S and W cardinal points, with each having a caged carnelian drop suspended from it. The central drop is the longest and the largest. I love the contrast with the creamy white of the blister pearl and the warmth of the orange of the carnelians. There is a ring above the pendant, which has suspends the two chains of the pendant.
I love this exotic design, which demonstrates well the very individual designs that Ramsden was coming up with in the early years of the twentieth century. Very different from other designers and so unique. It is in pleasing condition. The carnelian to the left is cracked, however, as it is caged, there is no fear of losing it. It is not noticeable when you wear the piece and certainly not worth replacing in my opinion.
I will package carefully and post with Special Delivery or else by express courier internationally. The box in the images is not included but I will package in a new gift box. Thank you!
