Description
An absolutely stupendous Jugendstil design and firmly attributed to Max Gradl. Gradl was one of the top designers, working for a number of the Pforzheim jewellery companies- Theodor Fahrner being one of them. Similar brooches to this design were stamped with the Fahrner logo -this one is stamped “DEPOSE” and “900” for the quality of silver, typical in the c1900 era in Pforzheim.
This is such a striking design and as you see in one of the photos, Gradl enjoyed designing in a more 3D way, with the top “grille” of silver bars. The use of three stones is also typical (always remind me of faces) and here we have two chrysoprase stones and a centrally-set garnet. The enamel is sublime and again, this example is identical to one or two other Fahrner pieces that also have the same ombre shift in colour from pale apple green to deep indigo. It is exquisite and also in excellent order with everything pristine and only the patina acquired over the years. That I will leave for you to decide upon-whether you keep it or polish the piece up.
An impeccable piece of exquisite design by one of the most inspirational Jugendstil designers in Pforzheim – what is not to love! It measures approx 3.5cm wide. In superb condition, stones, enamel and silver work. I shall post by Special Delivery within the UK or else by courier internationally-for safety and speed. I will send in a new gift box and not the box in the images – thank you. Ref: cvr
