What a hugely impressive statement ring this is! Bernard made a few examples of these large cocktail rings in the c1930 era. These few exuberant rings are undoubtedly the crème de la crème of Bernard’s rings in my opinion. Early, hugely decadent and meant to be SEEN, this ring is also signed as his work on the inside of the band. It is a magnificent thing indeed. The ring is a book piece, appearing on p126 of the book “Bernard Instone Designer and Craftsman: the art of a jeweller” by Tracy Henriksen.
Statement in size and also in design, there are beautifully executed silver and gold leaves draped to each shoulder. Gold balls intersperse the design in several places. The bezel-set oval jade cabochon sits at the centre of the design,; it is flanked above and below by a pair of faceted citrines, separated by a half pearl. The ring is superbly ergonomic in its comfortable, rounded shape on the finger. The honey citrines sparkle well and all stones are in super order. There is a natural inclusion line in the jade-it is not damage.
A wonderful piece of important English Arts and Crafts’ art to wear on your finger. Most likely a unique piece by Bernard. It is huge and takes up nearly all my finger to the first joint…it is approx 3.3cm in length. It measures as approx UK size N (US 6.5). It is signed “SILVER B.I” on the inside of the shank.
