Description
A lovely pale green jade necklace in a double row design, with one shorter than the other so that it drapes beautifully over the neck. The jade beads are individually knotted and I believe they are antique, pre-dating the fabulous gold clasp that has a London 1975 date stamp with maker’s mark. It was most likely added to the beads during that era.
I adore the pale green, which is actually really hard to photograph, appearing darker in the images sometimes. The beads are wonderfully all the same size so no graduating effect, which I actually really like. Some of the beads are more yellow and some have those bright lettuce green patches you see occasionally. In days gone by, the clasp was generally worn at the back of the neck, however, it is much more typical now to see the clasp on show at the front or side of the necklace. I have added some images to show you how that looks, as the clasp is bright with those faceted peridots and the yellow gold. I also love the rope work twist in the gold structure-very reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts designs by Nossiter etc.
The necklace measures approx 48cm (just under 19 inches) in length. The beads measure approx 6mm each. When tested, I found the jade beads at the top end of Nephrite / bottom end of Jadeite and as I am not a gemmologist I will assume they are Nephrite. In very good condition with the inevitable slight fraying of thread in 1 or 2 places…but absolutely solid and certainly does not need restringing. I shall post in a new necklace gift box (boxes in images are for display only). Complimentary tracked and signed for post is included. Thank you.
