Description
An attractive antique Victorian agate bracelet, most likely from Scotland, which is where most of these were made. It dates from the 1800s and displays a variety of agates across the colour range of brown to green to orange. A pretty example, as I think those hexagonal barrel links are wonderful, as are the silver balls set between each stone. Those have been chased by hand giving them the etched designs, which are essentially floral in nature.
A very lovely bracelet which also has an unusual clasp, being set in a large chased work ball. This means you simply pop the clasp in and it snaps shut, therefore, being easy to put on and off yourself.
There is also an attached carnelian padlock feature suspended from the clasp ball. There is a ding in the silver to the verso chased work section. The large loop which forms the mechanism you put into the catch, is a little bent and if you are eagle-eyed you could spot this. Up to you whether you ask a jeweller to straighten it a little more-I would leave as is., personally, as it is such a minor thing. You may even have a heart padlock you wish to put on there instead. No damage to the agates or to the silver on the bracelet and that is quite a rarity. I believe the barrel shapes and the sturdy silver caps to each end have protected the piece well over the years.
In pleasing condition for her age, she measures approx 20cm (8 inches) in length.
