A rare pair of fine quality synthetic Alexandrite earrings dating from the Edwardian era. Do not be put off by the use of the word “synthetic”-these are highly sought-after beauties. They test on the ruby / sapphire scale with the gem testing machine and that is completely in line with how synthetic sapphires were crafted in that era. They are real gem stones . A sapphire / ruby was heat treated to achieve this incredibly intense purple colour with colour flashes of blue in this case.
They are impressive earrings, complete with their original, substantial gold mounts and their screw back fittings. They are actually rather huge stud earrings with the stone on each, measuring approx 12mm in diameter. What an impressive show of intense purple they make! Each stone is held in place with 8 fine gold claws. The yellow gold has softened in colour over the years and is that lovely mellow, almost rose gold colour that you just can’t replicate without putting in the years of existence.
The screw backs are stamped with the antique stamp “9CT”. In superb condition with no damage to the stones.
These beautiful things will make a welcome addition to someone’s antique jewellery collection.
