This bracelet has to be one of the most incredibly beautiful bracelets I have ever come across. I believe it to be Edwardian, so c1910 construction. It is a superlative thing, which reflects the very best in inspired jewellery design. These garnets are sensational….I believe the term for the colour is “pigeon blood” red….so vibrantly red – they are absolutely captivating.
Each of the beautiful graduated garnets is set in its own hinged, solid gold panel, with all panels excluding the large central stone, being accented by glittering round, faceted white sapphires. I love the tapered ends to the decorative part of the bracelet and I adore the chased detailing on the sides of the bracelet too. The central, decorative section of the bracelet moves sinuously because of those hinged sections, so you have an exceptionally ergonomic bracelet to wear – super comfortable.
The rest of the bracelet to the box clasp, has fine, rectangular gold links, so it sits fabulously on the wrist- such a fine piece of jewellery and the only one like it I have ever come across. I believe all five garnets to be original as they match superbly colour-wise. Very light wear to the bracelet-really wonderful for her age. The colour of the gold is warm -it is between the harsh of yellow gold and the warmth of rose gold. A lovely tone on such an antique piece.
If you miss this beauty, I am not sure when (or if) you might see another similar one- an unusual and beautiful piece of fine jewellery.
The bracelet measures approx 17.5cm (just a touch under 7 inches) and the width of the decorated section is approx 9mm. It has gravitas as the garnets are so large too. Beautifully constructed-just look at the sides and verso. In excellent condition….my jeweller replaced the faulty thumb piece for the clasp and it is much safer and sturdier to wear now.
