A truly beautiful Arts and Crafts ring by Bernard Instone in the 1920s, the exciting early part of his career. You can very much see his training with the Gaskins in this piece. It is also a book piece, appearing on p120 of the literature “Bernard Instone Designer and Craftsman: the art of a jeweller” by Tracy Henriksen.
An intricate and feminine ring with those early split leaves picked out in gold, along with the centre of the very Gaskinesque flowers in the design. The central stone is an apple green chrysoprase (stained agate) stone and there are blue/grey chalcedonies to the cardinal points. Complete with silver tendrils, this is a highly decorated ring, which also has a distinctive triple shank split at the shoulders. There are many elements in this design, that are clearly influenced from those Gaskin rings Bernard would have worked upon in the early years of his career.
A very beautiful piece of important English Arts and Crafts’ art to wear on your finger. Most likely a unique piece by Bernard. It measures as approx UK size N (US 6.5). It is signed as “STERLING SILVER” on the inside of the shank. These rare early pieces were generally unsigned. I believe this to be a one-off ring.
I will send in a new gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Complimentary courier internationally or else Special Delivery within the UK. Thank you.
