Description
A very rare thing indeed, an antique Jugendstil ring from Pforzheim c1900 bearing the DEPOSE stamp plus “900” plus another tiny stamp which I think is a partial dragonfly stamp, which indicates the firm of Meyle & Mayer. I have seen similar Jugendstil designs like this on brooches and hatpins but it is extremely rare to find such a design on a ring.
It is a petite ring but would size up if you needed to do that. It looks like a child’s ring although, I am well aware that average finger sizes were very much smaller in the past, so it could have been worn by a lady. It is in such a distinctive design with the Art Nouveau sinuous lines wrapping around the face of the design and an apple green chrysoprase stone set at the centre. To me, it most resembles the designs of Max Gradl. He worked for several jewellery companies, including Theodor Fahrner for about10 years.
It is so very rare to come across a ring like this. It has a wider point on each side of the band (I have tried to photograph it so you can see what I mean). There was perhaps a stamp on each side? The band is a little out-of-shape as you would well expect for such an antique ring. Petite in size, it fits my little finger and is approx UK size H.5 (US size 4).
It may be a petite ring but the design element makes impact and will surely appeal to lovers of the German Jugendstil movement. The face of the ring measures approx 11mm by 9mm.
I shall send either by special delivery within the UK or else by International Tracked and Signed. Box in images is not included but I will send in a new ring box. Thank you.
