Description
A lovely pair of carefully-considered Dorrie Nossiter clip-on Arts and Crafts earrings c1930. The design is centred around two faceted heart-shaped amethysts, both claw-set, with the larger at the base of the design and the smaller heart being inverted above it at the top of the design. In between the pair a turquoise cabochon, typical Dorrie coils and a number of silver balls. So-called Toi et Moi reference as it shows, two hearts in the same design-a reference to the longevity and eternal nature of love.
These are so typical of Dorrie’s work in every sense, both design and use of colour. I also love the fact that the pair are a mirror image of each other, with a definite left and right earring, …both designs tilted slightly from the clip setting so that they wear at a good angle on the ear lobe.
In pleasing order, one of the smallest amethysts on one earring has a tiny fleabite visible under 10 x magnification. Not visible otherwise as the heart shape is retained. Each earring measures approx 2.3cm in height.
