Description

A lovely rarity, having only ever seen one like it before (that example was with turquoise), a c1900 Jugendstil long sautoir necklace fully stamped with the Murrle Bennett maker’s mark. In lovely condition, all stones intact and undamaged too. The colour of these stones is such a warm hyacinth, lilac colour-I love it!  Fifteen lovely hyacinth and white amethysts are spectacle-set at intervals along the chain; 7 pairings of 2 and then one at the back of the necklace. Fifteen stones in the chain and one in the large pear-shaped drop, makes 16 stones in total. It is a lovely sautoir from one of the finest makers.

Each stone has been set by hand into its own spectacle setting and the attention to detail is clear to see. I acquired the piece with the lovely amethyst pear-shaped pendant shown, however, I think this was added in the Art Deco era-most likely as it is such an amazing match with the cabochons in the chain. The pendant has some amazing features, including a double line looking like a stylised point (please see photos). It has one natural fissure in its outer rim but it is a natural feature of the stone and not damage. I have left the pendant on the chain as it does seem they are a beautiful pairing-however, if you wish to remove it, it is an easy job, if you wish to utilise the MB chain with a MB pendant. If you wish me to remove the pendant before sending the chain-please mention it to me, otherwise I shall include it for you.

The jump ring at the base of the chain is fully stamped with clear “SILVER” and “MB&C” maker’s mark. The chain’s length is approx 133cm (52.5 inches). The pendant measures approx 5.5cm in height, including bale.  In pleasing condition and ready to wear.
