A beautiful example of the detailed work of Arthur and Georgie Gaskin, showing their use of flecked leaves in silver and gold in a fabulous ring. It is a rare book piece, being illustrated on page 84 of Elyse Zorn Karlin’s book “Jewelry & Metalwork in the Arts & Crafts Tradition”. Arthur and Georgie Gaskin were the power couple of the British Arts and Crafts movement in the early years of the twentieth century. They were considered the leading British jewellers of the era and their wonderful pieces are exhibited all over the world in top museums and galleries, from the UK, to the US to Australia. Arthur Gaskin was Head Master at the Vittoria School in Birmingham, whilst Georgie made most of the jewellery herself. They had a studio on the outskirts of Birmingham, where they invited talented pupils of the school to come and help make their jewellery-Bernard Instone was one such name.

When you come across a piece of the Gaskins’ jewellery now, quite often I have noticed it is a part pendant with an empty loop (where there should have been a suspended drop, for example) so it is really rare to find an intact necklace. Any internet search will throw up astronomical prices for their work – £6,500 for a brooch- US$ 50,000 for a necklace. Unbelievable! However-their pieces do remain highly sought after. Rings are particularly scarce.

This beauty is typically hand wrought with a series of faceted pink tourmalines of differing colour depths and sizes. They are nestled into the design among draped stalks and silver and gold leaves of the typical Gaskins’ flecked variety. It is such a lovely design as rectangular rings like this look so flattering on the finger and it is such a wonderful way to get a significant slice of design on your finger.

The band has those typical Gaskin horizontal lines and grooves down each side.. I love to look at the reverse of the ring too, as the openwork aspect to the detailing is really great to observe. Beautiful! Stamped “STERLING SILVER” on the inside of the band, the ring measures as approx UK size N.5 (US 7). The face of the ring measures approx 2.8cm by 1.2cm. The ring is shaped ergonomcally to fit the finger well so you will not really see a straight line here.

A rare Gaskins’ ring-and a book piece too, all leaves and stones are present and correct. In pleasing condition! I will send in a new gift box rather than the box in the images as that is for display only. I will send Special Delivery within the UK or else by courier internationally. Thank you.
