A truly rare and beautiful piece of Jugendstil Secession ware c1900, which just sings Josef Hoffman. I have included  design sketch by Hoffman in the images so you can appreciate my attribution to a Hoffman design.

I researched this piece A LOT and could not find another like it. I did find similarites in the shape of the glass container and the use of copper, with one or two Jugendstil WMF pieces. (They were described as cigar boxes) Hence, my belief is it was perhaps a trial piece by WMF to a design by Hoffman.  It really is a beautiful design, using colours which evoke this time period.

Very intricate leaves and geometric detailing in enamel on the lid. The dark blue, pale orange and pale duck egg are fabulous together. The duck egg enamel seems to have had a little reaction with the copper and you can see small bubbles in it. However, I believe it is a production issue rather than later damage.

If you look on the underside of the lid. you can see the fine work of the maker, in the copper. The box measures approx 14.6cm by 8.6cm by 5.5cm in height.

A remarkably attractive survivor of the Secession era in Germany. I shall wrap well and send either Special Delivery within the UK or else with International Tracked and Signed. Many thanks.
