Description

A fabulously designed Skonvirke brooch in a Danish Art Nouveau design, dating from the c1910 era, Copenhagen.

It was created by S L Jacobsen, a much sought-after designer who collaborated in a number of his works with Evald Nielsen (another hugely sought-after designer). This is a particularly attractive Art Nouveau design with draped leaves, a cluster of silver berries and rows of three bezel set chrysoprase stones. The ripples and folds in the design all reflect the Art Nouveau sinuous lines you typically find in pieces from this era.

This even has the original drop, which sadly can be lost on many pieces you find nowadays. It is a lovely size and not too large and clunky, at approx 5.7cm by 6.4cm drop. Large enough to make quite an impression because of its design and yet not too heavy to wear in a collar or at the front of a dress.

It is fully signed to the verso, with “830S” “SJ” Stones and silver work all in excellent condition, with the only noteworthy feature being the C catch replacement that is at a little bit of an angle. However, as the pin is usually hidden in clothing, it certainly should be no issue.

I will send in a new gift box by complimentary tracked and signed postage. Thank you. (Boxes in the images are for display only).
