Description
A wonderful example of Catalan Art Deco design from the 1930s era, Barcelona. These Deco pieces in silver and gold (and generally with a blue stone too) are now particularly highly sought-after. This is a superb example, which really seems to very reminiscent of Picasso’s work – no wonder, as he hailed from Barcelona too.
This is a hand crafted piece of Art Deco jewellery, which was most likely created when the owner of some gold and silver coins gave them to a jeweller, in order to be melted down and reformed into one of the Art Deco designs of the day. It has hammered silver sections, coils, foliate sections and sheets of gold laid over particular parts of the design. I love the large teeth holding the aquamarine paste in place. The blue and the gold details work splendidly together.
This is a completely absorbing piece of art jewellery, which is most likely a unique piece of design.
It has a silver stamp mark on the pin. It measures approx 5.2cm by 3.5cm. It is in pleasing condition for a piece coming up to 100 years old. A wonderful piece for Art Deco collectors, showing the typical features of the Catalan Art Deco movement of the 1930s.
