Description

A lovely example of a Victorian gilded bangle, featuring Bohemian garnets all the way around the bangle, which is more unusual. This would be a super piece if you are gathering a garnets stack together for your wrist. It is a more unusual design, being a Toi et Moi romantic piece, with two lucky clovers in the centre of the design, near the central, large garnet.

The garnets are well matched in their colour, a deep red jammy shade and they glisten beautifully in the light, being so beautifully cut. The contrast of the red against the rich gold of the gilding of the metal is fabulous. I was sold this bangle as 8ct gold which was used a fair amount in Germany and other countries in that era. A slightly lower gold content than 9ct hence, can’t be classed as gold for us today. However, these bangles were often made of Tombak – a sort of gilded metal.

This bangle has its original catch and safety chain and even has a beautiful inscription on the inside “A.C. J. 20.03.06” The bracelet is older than 06, and is most likely from the 1890s.

It is a delicate and beautiful thing, fitting a slim wrist. My wrist is approx 17 to 17.5cm cm and it fits me. It would fit a larger wrist if the safety chain were removed or extended.

The central detailing section measures a touch over 3cm in length. In good order, with just one teeny (the smallest) garnet missing. This was discovered under the loupe and is not apparent when wearing.

I will send in a new gift box as the box in the images is for display only-thank you.
