Description

Wow-what a beautiful set! It is such an enigma for me as it is the first time I have come across a set marked as 9ct (London hallmarks), when they look and actually test clearly as 18ct gold. Immediately recognisable as high-carat gold with its strong buttery yellow colour, I tested in numerous places on both the earrings and the pendant and all the test were positive for high carat gold, minimum 18ct. Older pieces wrongly assayed in the 1970s perhaps? They are beautiful things and it is so wonderful to find a matching pendant with the earrings.

The design is striking, with the rather ornate foliate designs set around the large garnet stones. There is a lot of gold in this design. The colour of the garnets is exquisite too-dark ruby red to a lighter jammy red, when the light gets behind them….just gorgeous!

Those Georgian style settings for the stones look fabulous with the buttery, bright yellow claws against the dark red. The pendant has a hand-made gold bale, decorated with a seed pearl. The earrings measure approx 4cm in height and they have already been adapted with 9ct gold posts and butterfly backs- ready to wear.  The pendant measures approx 4.5cm in height, including the bale. The set is in excellent condition and there is no wear to the stones- pretty pristine, I have to say.
