Description

This is a unique and beautiful hand-crafted statement necklace by Amy Sandheim of London from the 1920s era. It is a cruciform design with the addition of those instantly recognisable Amy leaves and clusters of berries. The gems’ palette is wonderful as you can see, featuring unusual brown zircons as the central stone and main cardinal points. An earlier, more delicately worked piece and a beautiful thing all round. Amy Sandheim pieces are all highly desirable as well as unique, as she made them herself by hand in her studio in London.

As well as the rarely used brown zircons, there are tourmalines, peridots and pastes. A muted yet tasteful mix of colours that sparkle furiously, as they are in open-backed settings. I adore the dense foliate work and berry clusters packed into the central area of the pendant section. They are tiny, precise and expertly executed. The addition of the grouping of three stones at the culmination of each cardinal point, is fabulous too. It is a delicate piece, hand-wrought with such precision. The chain has three sets of Arts & Crafts links to each side and has most likely had a clasp replacement over her lifetime. The chain is shortish so it puts the pendant just under you throat, where it is easy to see.
The pendant measures a touch over 7.5cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 38cm (approx 15 inches). In pleasing condition and ready to wear.
