Description
A wonderfully statement-sized antique Austro-Hungarian cross pendant with large raspberry pink garnets, some flat-cut and some with a large flat surface and tiny faceted edges visible. Lots of flat surfaces and that lovely pale raspberry jam colour – they are closed-back stones in attractive hand-fluted settings in silver. A particularly attractive example from the 1800s. Please note the chain is not included.
The pendant is articulated, as there are two sections; the top round section has a faux pearl set in a fluted setting with silver filigree and ball work set as halos around the pearl. These round decorative collars (one on each part of the pendant) add a 3D quality to the pendant as they are placed at a different height to the other sections. Fine silver ropework decorates the edges of the main cross section and then silver scroll work completes the pendant.
If you flip this impressive pendant over, you will see the amount of decorative work that has gone into the verso. Lovely thing all round! The pendant is large, at approx 9cm by 5.2cm and has a large bale. It would accommodate a wide variety of chains. One or two teeny flea bites to a facet edge and one or two natural surface inclusions in the garnets…completely in keeping with her age.
Box is for display purposes only. I will send in a new gift box by special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Thank you.
