Description

A lovely find and in a design I simply haven’t seen before, with these floral motifs (very typical of Bernard’s 1920s and 1930s work in particular) a shimmering brooch with panels of these motifs joined together. It shimmers with dozens of very sparkly marcasites (pyrites) which catch the light easily. The front uses oxidised silver to obtain this fabulous, dark appearance.

There are 6 of these typical motifs and it is actually a very attractive brooch. This 1920s piece is finer and more delicate than some of the later, mass-produced pieces and you can really feel the quality as you hold it in your hand. I love that this has a lovely Instone maker’s mark on a plaque on the verso.

All marcasites present and correct, which is also very satisfying. The brooch measures approx 5cm by 3.2cm. It retains its original pin and clasp and some patina, which you may wish to polish away. However, I think it seemed to suit the marcasites and the open wok design so left it for you to decide upon.

I will send in a new gift box as the boxes in my images are for display only. Please note I am not currently selling to Germany. Thank you.
