This is a sweet and very pretty Edwardian brooch, dating from the c1910 era and which does remind me of a winged creature. The combination of opal with moonstones is such a pleasing one and set in gold too makes this a very special brooch. A joyful little thing.
The moonstone “wings” to either side are wonderfully-set and have that liquid quality, shifting from white to blue hues. The central bezel set opal is very lively, which is always difficult to capture on the images. There are flashes of reds, greens and blues. A small gold ball sits at the top and bottom of the opal’s setting. The whole brooch is constructed in 9ct yellow gold (tested as such).
This is a beautiful brooch, in quality materials which is just pure design joy. She retains her original gold pin (a little bent) and original simple C clasp. There is a loop to add a safety chain if you so desire once you receive her.
The brooch measures approx 4.4cm in length (including pin). No marks but stones and gold have all been carefully tested. A lovely antique pin from the Edwardian era, that gives a nod too to the Arts and Crafts designs of the day.
The brooch will be sent in a new box (boxes in images are for display only and are not included) and by complimentary special delivery within the UK or else Royal Mail’s international tracked and signed. Thank you.
