Description
This is an attractive and rare Andreas Odenwald of Pforzheim signed piece of design from the Jugendstil / German Art Nouveau era c1905. It resembles other examples of his work, which are illustrated on page 278 in the literature: “Art Nouveau jewellery from Pforzheim” by Fritz Falk. I think it is actually a more attractive example than those on that page in the book. I love that it is fully signed too.
Those fabulously stylised leaves and sinuous lines give this brooch such a flavour of Art Nouveau. Two, bezel-set chrysoprase stone on stalks represent flowers nestled in the leaves’ design. It is as punchy a design statement as you will find for its size and it is also in excellent condition, all original and with no wear to the stones.
The brooch is stamped to the verso with the word “GESCHUTZT” and “800” for the quality of silver used in that era. Pleasingly, it also carries clearly the Andreas Odenwald maker’s mark. An outstanding Jugendstil brooch which would make such a wonderful addition to a collection.
It measures approx 3.4cm wide.
It will be sent by International Tracked and Signed or else Special Delivery within the UK. Please note the box is for display purposes only and the brooch will be securely boxed in another box for safe passage.
