A beautiful, small hand crafted brooch, which is most likely an Anglo German piece made for Liberty & Co by Murrle Bennett. It carries a 4 digit design number “1422” and also bears three letters-probably for the actual maker of the piece. It looks like either “oht” or “ohf”. Perhaps this was a trial piece.
It is typical c1900 Jugendstil / Arts and Crafts styling with faux rivets and planished work. Set with a central turquoise stone, it may be a small piece but is very intricate. You can see the circular hammered relief work, and then at each side of the stone-these have been made heart-shaped by the maker. Flip over the brooch and you can see every indentation made by its creator.
It retains its original pin and C clasp and measures a touch under 4cm by approx 1.4cm. A lovely thing, the design of which I have never seen before.
I will send by Signed For in a new box as the box in the images is for display purposes only. Thank you!
