Description

A vibrant dragonfly brooch, which was most likely created in the c1900 era, being very much like some other Arts and Crafts pieces I have seen from the era. The metal is gilt and is most likely base metal and probably selected for its strength and stability as this is quite a large piece. The enamelling is other-worldly and the mix of green, cobalt blue and turquoise makes for a very dynamic statement.

I love the detailing in sections on the tail and the naturalistic look of the whole dragonfly. The blister pearl is mounted as the thorax of the insect-a typical A&C touch from that era. One or two slight losses of enamel (top largest wing tip-minute!!!) and part of one section on the tail but barely noticeable and does not detract from the splendour of the brooch at all.

Wonderful enamel work and a gorgeous piece to add to anyone’s collection. The dragonfly measures approx 4.8cm by 4.8cm. I shall send in anew gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Complimentary tracked and signed is included. Thank you.
