A rare example of Victorian Harlequin jewellery, with 16 mixed pear-shaped faceted gemstones set in spectacle settings of 9ct gold. This lovely bracelet uses four gem stones, citrines, amethysts, peridots and garnets. The stones are all faceted tear-drop shaped stones and the colours work well together.
Harlequin jewellery meant using stones of many colours and it was essentially a reference to the days of bright, loud, farcical theatrical performances with jesters and so on. Jewellers used gems, both precious and semi-precious to convey this element of joie de vivre and celebration of the jovial energy. In this case we have yellow, orange, red and green stones running the length of the bracelet.
Every element in the design has clearly been considered and there is such balance- 16 stones, 4 sets of the pattern… peridot, garnet, amethyst, citrine…and repeat. This would be a very appropriate sweet 16 birthday present or for any occasion when 16 is important.
A light, ethereal and understated piece rather than of large proportions, as you would expect from the era. In excellent order-both the gold structure and the 16 gemstones. She measures approx 18.5cm (7.25 inches) in length.
This fabulous bracelet will be sent, in a new box to protect her well and by Tracked and Signed delivery within the UK and by courier internationally. Thank you!
