A petite and perfect Gaskins pendant, with all of those beautiful Gaskins motifs you would hope to find. It is a triangular form and is in all original condition, with its original rose decorated bale and teardrop peridot drop. It was created in the c1900/1905 era by the powerhouse creative team of Arthur Gaskin and his wife Georgina, in Birmingham, England.
It is always such a delight to find a Gaskins’ piece as each one is of course, different to the last. I adore that this pendant uses real gem stones, as sometimes pastes were used to obtain the desired colour for the design. We have a beautifully faceted pink tourmaline near the top of the design and a lovely flat-cut (side faceted) peridot stone in the drop. There is also a lovely blister pearl, with large petals behind it, creating the centrepiece to the design. There are also four smaller, typical Gaskins’ flowers set amid the triangular form. Each has a tiny silver ball at its centre and a tiny rope work detail around its base, with five broad leaves completing each flower.
Those leaves are so finely executed and to be honest, there is little doubt that it was Georgie’s hands in the creation of this piece-she was apparently the best jeweller of the two and completed most of the jewellery work. Look at the rope work detailing at the base of the pearl and you will see what I mean. I also love the the silver detailing near the drop- on one side a cluster of three berries and on the other, a leaf. The devil really is in the detail. Flip her over and see the clean finish to the verso, complete with those two little leaves. Excellent!
A petite piece but a perfect thing in pleasing condition. The hand crafted bale has what looks like a Tudor rose on it. I am happy to include the petite silver chain with the pendant, as it has been hand crafted and you can see the joins on every link. It has had a catch replacement at some point. The pendant measures approx 3.6cm in height by approx 2cm. Some patina remains so would polish further if you desire. The chain measures approx 51.5cm (20 inches).
If you have always longed for a Gaskins’ piece, this could be your chance. I shall send in a new gift box as the box in the images is for display only. Tracked and signed post is included.
