This is just the most wonderful design, which looks like c1900 Victorian /Arts and Crafts work. It is hand crafted- look at the complexity of the framework and those lines on the reverse! Magical to see.
The idea of a star (sun) burst was a popular motif in antique jewellery from the Victorian era onwards. This piece is a beautiful example of agates’ work, showing the diversity and richness of the stones. Cut en cabochon and super smooth and glossy-no chips as is usually the case with these older pieces. It even retains its original pin and C clasp. There is a small bale so it could be worn as a large and impressive pendant too. I have demonstrated it with a Victorian dog clip necklace (not included) and the dog clip copes really well with the small bale. You could have your jeweller enlarge the bale if desired.
There is no doubt, this is a show case piece of how to present a range of agate stones, within a beautiful, organic and hand crafted design. I love the hand tooled leaves punctuating the stones around the periphery. It is a striking piece and measures a handsome 6.5cm in diameter (over 2.5 inches). Wow!
Unmarked as you would expect but tests as sterling silver. An absolute treasure of a piece for anyone loving the Victorian agates look but within a more Arts and Crafts design.
I shall send in a new gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only -thank you. Please note that I am currently not sending to Germany.
