Description

A lovely Victorian piece, most likely late 1800s, which is a little larger than you usually find. It has been crafted in silver (tested) and uses Ceylon moonstones to highlight the form of the scorpion- 11 stones actually. It is such an iconic Victorian piece and pleasingly the brooch setting is set vertically, meaning you can loop a chain through the pin on the verso and wear as an amazing pendant. It really catches the eye easily with the adularescence of the moonstones.

In pleasing condition and as mentioned, a little larger than you usually find, the segmented tail hangs down in such a flattering way, with the curled “sting in the tail” at the end. The brooch measures slightly over 8.5cm in length. I have paired it with a choker silver chain at approx 41.5cm (16.25 inches) so that the scorpion crawls beautifully  just under the throat – stunning! I am happy to include the chain. If you prefer to wear as a brooch on your lapel, it makes the same astonishing statement.

In pleasing condition-under the loupe I can see a teeny flake off the edge on the smallest moonstone but it really is minimal and mentioned for accuracy purposes.
