Description

What a lovely example of one of Bernard’s statement wreath brooches, c1930s,  and such a pleasure to have a genuine Bernard design, as so very many I see listed as Bernard’s on online platforms now, are actually Shipton & Co pieces. Once you hold a genuine Bernard brooch of this kind it becomes rather easy to spot interlopers. The quality of this Bernard example is wonderful, as you would expect.

The hand-crafted work is superlative, with long, sleek, carefully hand-tooled leaves draped throughout the design. They are joined by curled tendrils every now and then. Seven large and fabulously faceted honey citrines are set in a circular arrangement. The stones are all in super order and although they seem so dark on the photos, they are actually a little lighter in natural light rather than in the light box. The stones are exceedingly well-matched and throw the light easily. It is a joyful brooch, perhaps reminding us of Spring with its fresh leaves and its yellow stones. It feels heavy and squat in your hand, as it should.

This is quite a large example so does make a beautiful statement at approx 4.5cm in diameter. It retains its original pin and simple C clasp, as well as its original silver safety chain and fastener. Perfect condition, retaining some patina which I believe adds further depth to the naturalistic leaves.

I shall send in a new gift box by complimentary Special Delivery within the UK or else by Royal Mail’s International Tracked and Signed service. Thank you.
