Description
These are lovely Georgian drop earrings in a minimum of 9ct gold, that have been fitted with 14ct gold posts and butterfly backs. They have five wonderfully lively flat-cut garnets in each earring, making a total of 10 stones. They are foiled which really enhances the depth of the vibrant pink colour when the light hits them at certain angles. They are ready to be worn and enjoyed. This adds extra sparkle and depth to the appearance of the garnets. They have some damage, which I will describe below.
Beautiful cut-down nipped gold settings remind us of the age of these earrings. From the early 1800s, so we are looking at earrings of about 200 years in age. Each earring has a mix of round and pear-shaped flat cut garnets. The first four stones are in one solid design, with the fifth stone, a pear-shaped garnet being suspended below that main panel. This gives a lovely touch of articulation. One earring has a line/break (looks like a jeweller has secured it already though) in the right-hand pear stone above the bottom stone. The other earring has a tiny nibble from the top stone and a small chip out of the stone below it. I feel the earrings are still wearable, as you would have to examine closely to scrutinise any damage. They are not being sold as perfect but as a pair of beautiful antique earrings with wear from over the centuries. You may decide to wear as is (as I would) or else use the parts for repairs.
The main part of the earrings are crafted throughout (closed-back settings) in 9 to 10ct gold, with the posts, ball and butterfly backs being crafted in 14ct gold. Beautiful things that have had a history but which are keen to live life fully once more. The drop of each earring is approx 4cm. Post and fittings stamped as 14ct gold.
I will send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) by Special Delivery within the UK or else by Tracked and Signed. Thank you.
