Description

A most wonderful piece of Bernard’s earlier work, with all of the due care, consideration and excellence of detailing you would expect from a piece from the c1920 era. A sumptuous, most likely unique design with large, bright, jammy red garnets set among silver leaves  and an abundance of tiny flowers. A real beauty!

This is a catalogued Instone piece and appears on p169 of the literature “Bernard Instone  Designer and Craftsman; the art of a jeweller” by Tracy Henriksen. This is fabulously intricate piece of work, with the Instone hand-tooled leaves we recognise immediately . One thing that sets this beautiful brooch apart from others is the sheer volume of hand-wrought silver flowers which appear in the design. very Gaskinesque in its appeal. I simply have not seen another like it. I adore the way the flower bouquet section is “placed into” the long silver holder so that it acts almost as a wedding buttonhole decoration. Lovely!

There are 6 large faceted, jammy red garnets, which sparkle and glisten with ease. Both their vibrant colour and reflective qualities are top notch. The garnets are aided in their light-throwing capability by being open backed, allowing light to flood through them. There is also a fine mille grain detailing on all of their settings. This is astonishingly precise and careful work-typical of Bernard’s earlier pieces.

A unique piece of art by Bernard in excellent condition and retaining its original safety chain. It measures approx 8.8cm in length. Some patina so would polish further if that’s what you prefer.

I shall post by special delivery within the UK or else by international tracked and signed. Please note the boxes in the images are not included, however I will send in a box to protect the piece. Thank you.
