Description

A wonderful, wonderful design statement and firmly attributed to Dorrie Nossiter, England, c1930. This would make a stunning Museum piece of a quality Arts and Crafts piece of jewellery, executed with precision and using quality materials. It is a rare joy of a piece and I have never quite seen such a large tablet of rose quartz that is also such a beautiful dark pink colour. The foliate design draped over the front of the pendant, and at the back, is just glorious. I would suggest early 1930s if not late 1920s- with original trombone link chain too, hurrah! This is such a rare design and may actually have been a commission piece.

I adore the design and the stones used in this hand-crafted jewel; the very Art Deco touch of using pink and green as a base, is lovely. Pink from the rose quartz and what a splendid stone that main tablet is…full of rich, natural, darker pink hues and with so many interesting inclusions. Superbly cut. The green is from a translucent pale green chrysoprase. It is unusual to find such highly-detailed flowers in the design overlapping the main stone so this is rather an exquisite example. There are two flowers, forget-me-nots, represented by the lovely little rubies at their centres and using lapis lazuli cabochons as the petals. One excellent example of the incredible hand-crafted detailing is there in the flowers-each one a different number of “petals” that fits best the design. In typical Dorrie fashion, there are dozens and dozens of tiny gold balls dotted all over the design and up towards the bale.

The verso uses chrysoprase and lapis cabochons, as well as more tiny gold balls. Above the hand-made bale you find further beads set before the chain begins, and they reflect the same colours used in the main design. An incredibly detailed piece of work by one of the best Arts and Crafts designers, using gorgeous stones in an inspired design. Beautiful!

The main pendant section measures approx 5.5cm in height and approx 3.3cm wide. In outstandingly good condition, having been housed away for the last fifty years or so. It’s time for her to show her beauty to the world, once more. I shall send in a necklace presentation box and send by complimentary post, Special Delivery within the UK and by Express courier internationally. Boxes n the images are not included, thank you.
