A mighty find indeed. A rarer than rare pair of Artificers’ Guild Arts and Crafts earrings by Edward Spencer c1905. They were acquired along with the Edward Spencer pendant necklace I am selling and so, I believe someone had paired the two Spencer pieces to be worn together. This is helped that both are created in silver with amethyst and rock crystal.
Arts and Crafts earrings from this period are always so difficult to acquire-mainly as there were not as many made as say brooches, for example and also that during the course of time, one earring generally became lost or else damaged. You can magnify that rarity by quite a lot to get Artificers’ Guild earrings and then once more, to find Edward Spencer earrings.
These are wonderful, precise and fine examples with the razor sharp detailing on the leaves (immediately recognisable as Artificers’ Guild work). The earrings are in three sections which allows fabulous articulation as you wear them or else move them. The leaf work central section also has clusters of three tiny silver balls and rope work detailing. It suspends from a four petalled rope work motif, dotted at the centre with a silver ball.
Suspended below the central foliate panel is a round, faceted rock crystal bead with faceted roundels of amethyst at either side of the crystal bead. So sparkly and just a lovely, light combination of stones.
The earrings retain their original screw back fittings and both are in fabulous condition, both silver work and the stones. They have clearly been kept safe, along with the necklace I am selling separately.
Gorgeous things-measuring approx 4.7cm drop which is lovely! They came to me in the velvet and silk lined box you can see in the images, so I will provide that too for you.
