Description
A unique and lovingly hand wrought A&C pendant necklace in such a wonderful design, featuring a large detailed sunflower to the centre. A rare flower to come across in this type of A&C jewellery c1900 so it makes the piece even more desirable. The detailing is exquisite and when you consider that every leaf, ball and setting is all hand-wrought, well, you start to understand how much work has gone into this amazing necklace.
With connecting festoon chains and three chains in the drops-there is a an attractive structure to the piece and also, a pleasing sense of articulation. There are three matching spacers, each set with blister pearl detailing. The main form around the sunflower has cardinal points at which further blister pearls are set.
The three natural wing pearls in the drops are beautifully set with detailed caps. It is absolutely an exquisite piece of antique jewellery. Even the original toggle fastener detail is hand-made and rather individual in its design.
In pleasing condition, the pendant measures approx 9cm in height and the wearable length of the chain is approx 38cm (14.75 inches) so this would wear rather like a choker design. The verso is absorbingly fabulous and you cannot help but wonder what dainty hands did all of this exquisitely tiny detail.
A beautiful one-off piece of c1900 hand-crafted jewellery, absolutely rooted in the English Arts and Crafts era.
