Description
A hugely attractive Amy Sandheim of London piece, c1930, which features beautifully-cut pale blue and pale green chalcedonies on an openwork design in silver. It is a light, bright and uplifting piece of jewellery that has original Amy silver chains and fittings, which means you can flip seamlessly between wearing this as a statement necklace or else wearing as a brooch. You could even use the chains with other pieces to transform them as necklaces.
The colours of the stones together are sublime and show a gifted eye for matching gemstones and tones of colours. At first glance, you may not notice that the four smaller green chalcedonies are heart-shaped or that the main stone is actually faceted. It has a large slightly rounded cabochon face and has been cut around the sides, meaning that the rim catches the light beautifully. I love too that the elongated pale blue chalcedony teardrops are “threaded” onto the claw at the narrow end for extra support.
The elaborate, airy silver cruciform-shaped scrollwork design behind the stones also adds to the ethereal nature of the piece. I adore too the elaborate silver Arts and Crafts chains, which are on hooks at the point they meet the pendant/brooch. very secure to wear and easy to remove to give you the opportunity to wear as a brooch too. It is the first time I have seen this arrangement in one of her pieces but it does increase the versatility of the beautiful thing.
The pendant/brooch measures approx 7.7cm by 7.1cm. The wearable length of the chain is approx 72.5cm (28.5 inches) so it is a good length to pop over your head without having to undo the catch. It retains its original pin and fittings too and is stamped “STERLING” in numerous places. Another beautiful Amy piece.
