A wonderfully large, statement piece, in such an attractive design and so finely executed. Attributed to Amy Sandheim of London c1930, this beautiful Arts and Crafts piece displays three large cabochon water opals with lots of colour flashes. A small chalcedony stone in a grey / lilac shade completes the brooch at each end. The colours are beautiful and the purple / lilac theme is the overriding colour dominance.
This brooch has naturalistic flowers and stems designs on panels in between each of the stones. It is so eye-catching, as it is done in an open work style so there is a levity and fineness to the look of the whole piece. The central opal has the most intense violet colour flashes. Another is more of a red, green and orange mix, whilst the third also has some violet and orange flashes. It is surely a one-off piece and at approx 12cm in length-she makes a huge statement!
I have had a few large Amy brooches before and typically, each is very different to the last. I have never seen this lovely floral and stem design either but I have to say that it is an instant favourite. All original and in good condition, just a slight bend in the pin. The purples and lilacs in this piece are sumptuous.
