Description
A completely fabulous antique brooch, c1880 which was created in Vienna, by the master silversmith, considered one of Europe’s finest jewellers and enamellers in the era- Hermann Böhm. His work is highly collectable and we usually see his large enamelled jars and vases, so finding his signed jewellery is always a treat! Böhm is often viewed as being one of the finest enamellers of this type of enamelled Austro-Hungarian work.
This is a lovely, balanced and yet vibrant piece of work, with those shimmering faceted garnets of a beautiful raspberry jam colour, and that central apple green domed chrysoprase stone. There are gold washed fleur-du-lys motifs in a halo around the edge of the circular panel and that just elevates this piece even further. A concentrated drop of intensely rich design and a beautiful thing to add to your collection. It is pleasingly, fully marked by the maker HB, for Vienna and also with the dog mark brought into use in 1872.
In excellent condition for its age with all stones intact. Stamped with A for Vienna, and the maker’s mark “HB” on both the pin and on the clasp. It also has the dog silver mark. A truly wonderful Austro-Hungarian piece by a sought-after master.
The length of the brooch is approx 7.8cm.
