Description
This is a wonderful, unique and lovely hand-crafted design from the c1900 era, featuring a long mother-of-pearl drop adorned by tiny leaves and ribbon knots. A very beautiful design and so unusual. All hand-crafted, from the smallest of leaves to the hand-made catch, so much care and precision has gone into this lovely thing.
The mother-of-pearl has been carefully set in its own neat and cosy bezel setting and it is a delicious creamy white, which looks beautiful in combination with the silver. Clusters of leaves and berries abound, along with those very romantically-linked lovers’ knots in silver at the top of the pendant. Two parallel links are locked together at the start of the chain, adding to the vertical height of the pendant. The original chain culminates in the hand-made clasp. It is a very beautiful necklace.
The drop on the pendant measures approx 7.5cm in height and the chain is approx 40cm (15.75 inches) long. In pleasing condition -one small sliver on the top left (top layer only) of the mother-of-pearl is missing -please see photos. It is most likely along a natural weakness line / fissure and as it is only the top layer, not too noticeable at all. It could actually have been part of the manufacture process rather than later damage. A beautiful design.
