Description

A beautifully rare c1930 Arts and Crafts bracelet by Bernard Instone. It is a book piece, featured (both the front and the verso of the bracelet) on p154 of “Bernard Instone Designer and Craftsman: the art of a jeweller” by Tracy Henriksen. The stones used here are some of Bernard’s favourites and I love how they sparkle and enhance the design, bringing so much light with the sparkling yellow and pale green stones. It is a beautiful thing!

One of the most beautiful elements for me, are the oval foliate plaques with their hand-tooled leaves and tendrils. Crafted by hand, each leaf placed in just the right position for the design. I love too, how Bernard used one of the plaques as a box clasp so the bracelet details re not interrupted by the clumsiness of a visible clasp. Crafted at the height of Bernard’s success in the c1930 era, it is a fabulous example of the precision and attention to detail that was given to his pieces in this era.

The citrines are large, bold and bounce the light joyfully. If you flip the bracelet over, you can see the very intentional clean designs to the verso of the foliate plaques that we love in Bernard’s work. Even the verso of the box clasp is lovely, with a sort of cross design, allowing the light to peep through.

In pleasing condition, all stones present and correct. She is ready to be worn and to be admired.

The length of the bracelet is approx 17cm (6.75 inches). No marks but, as mentioned, a recognised Bernard Instone piece. From a private collection.

I will send in a new velvet bracelet box.  Complimentary courier internationally or else Special Delivery within the UK. Thank you.
