Description

This is an attractive signed DEPOSE piece of design from the JUGENDSTIL era, which I am firmly attributing to Max Gradl. It resembles other examples of his work, some of which are illustrated on page 96 in the literature: “Theodor Fahrner Jewelry…between Avantgarde and Tradition” by Schmundt, Weber, Becker.

Those fabulously stylised leaves give this such a flavour of Art Nouveau and there is a sense of balance in the design with one leaf to either side. A central, bezel-set chrysoprase stone strikes a wonderful deep apple green note. The setting has fine millegrain detailing.

The brooch is stamped to the verso with the word “DEPOSE” and “900” for the quality of silver used. It retains its pin (slight bend) and a very large C clasp which means it would take little effort to curl it over to create a bale so you can hang the brooch vertically to create a pendant.
It measures approx 4cm wide (including pin).

It will be sent by International Tracked and Signed or else Special Delivery within the UK. Please note the box is for display purposes only and the brooch will be securely boxed in another box for safe passage.
