Description
A rare piece of hand-crafted work, which is a known design by Oliver Baker for Liberty & Co and the design is numbered 1362 in the Liberty Jewellery designs sketchbook in the Westminster Archives. That puts this design in the c1900-1904 era.
I have seen (very rarely!) one or two examples of this design with enamel in the top two well-shaped sections. This example is without enamel but the two flowers at the top, which look like calla lilies, are beautiful to appreciate as the lines and form undulates in such a sinuous way. In fact there is definitely a touch of the Art Nouveau in the design, with those hand-crafted silver, overlapping sections. A very pleasing design and finished off beautifully by the suspended freshwater pearl below. The brooch retains its gold hinge and gold C clasp, which elevate this beautiful, yet powerful piece, even further.
It measures approx 3.5cm in height by approx 2.6cm wide. Unmarked, as with the others, but confirmed as an Oliver Baker design for Liberty & Co. I shall send in a new gift box by complimentary Special Delivery within the UK or else by International tracked and signed. Box in the images is for display only-thank you.
