An absolutely delicious antique Georgian ring, c1840s, in such an attractive design, with a large cushion-shaped ruby at its centre and four old-cut diamonds, one at each cardinal points. It is crafted in 14/15ct gold (tested) and all stones have been tested as true too.
I adore the open work nature and size of this ring-it gives it added lightness of look whilst still being a substantial size. The ruby is glorious! It is collet-set, a gorgeous deep pink red colour and measures approx 6mm by 5mm. It is in a lovely closed back setting in gold.
The old brilliant-cut diamonds are set in silver mounts (traditionally the preferred option so as to enhance the colourless nature of the diamonds). The scrolled open work face of the ring leads down to an inverted fleur-de-lys motif on each shoulder, also in a cut out style. This is the point at which the two narrower bands from the face section lead into one single, wide band for the rest of the ring. It is a charming and eye-catching ring, which also sits snugly on the finger and is so comfortable to wear.
There is some patina on the ring so it would polish further if you prefer. All stones in excellent order, including the large ruby. The only noteworthy point is a fracture line in the gold on one of the two thinner bands leading to the fleur-de-lys but it is not in the main band itself and is stable. I have worn the ring -for research purposes you understand π and it is an absolute joy! It is a UK size Q.5 (approx US 8.75). The face of the ring measures approx 1.7cm from N to S.
I shall send in a new ring gift box-if you would like me to sell you an antique ring box, please do drop me a line and I will message you about it. I will send with Special Delivery within the UK and by courier internationally.
