This is a wonderful Edwardian 9ct gold bracelet, c1910 made and stamped by excellent makers, Deakin and Francis (Birmingham)- the company was founded in 1786 and is still making beautiful jewellery today. It is rare to come across such bracelets, much more so than the Edwardian necklaces so this was such a pleasure to find. This bracelet almost has an Art Nouveau design to it too, so I feel it overlaps the two movements beautifully.
Five oval openwork panels, each set with round faceted aquamarines (fully tested), each in its own fine millegrain setting. Very cleverly, the fastener has been integrated as one of these oval panels so that the bracelet looks seamless when you wear it. The fastening system actually has a Patent stamp numbered “75-08” on the reverse of it. It means the sleek, sophisticated elegance of the bracelet is not interrupted by a clumsy fastener which breaks the lines of the bracelet. In between each of these gold oval links is a small round, matching link- also with Nouveau style of horizontal lines and this time, studded with a tiny pearl in its own fine millegrain setting.
This is an elegant piece of design and craftspersonship – it has timeless appeal and I can’t help thinking it would be perfect for the occasion of a wedding because of its understated beauty. “Something old and something blue”.
In excellent condition-all gold checked, and all stones are excellent too. Stamped with the maker’s mark and with “9ct”. It measures approx 17.7cm (just a tiny touch under 7 inches). A lovely fit on the skin because of the way the panels curve. What a joy!
